The Maitland Mercury – your local newspaper – has been part of the Maitland community and Lower Hunter region since 1843.
That makes us the second oldest newspaper in NSW outside the Sydney Morning Herald and the oldest regional newspaper on the mainland.
From the days when the colony of NSW was still young, to today, with Maitland’s population reaching over 70,000 and the Hunter region’s topping more than 600,000, the Maitland Mercury is proud to have been a journal of record for more than 170 years.
But just as Maitland and the Hunter have not stood still, neither has the Maitland Mercury.
Today, the Maitland Mercury is a dynamic and vibrant media operation, committed to delivering news, information and entertainment across the spectrum of the traditional printed newspaper, together with its exciting website, local business directory and soon to be released mobile news app, providing even more opportunities for people to access our growing audience.
There’s more news about what’s happening in Maitland in the Maitland Mercury than in any other rival media outlet – but the good news doesn’t stop there.
The Maitland Mercury also includes Domain, the Lower Hunter’s No 1 real estate and property supplement; Hunter Valley and North Coast Town & Country Magazine, a fortnightly round up of rural news, a weekly 4-page TV guide, readers giveaways, lifestyle and entertainment lift-outs; classifieds; and of course the very latest in news and sport coverage.
