$3000 grants on offer to help cancer control projects

03 Jul, 2009 09:54 AM
The Cancer Council NSW is offering grants for Maitland community groups to fund Hunter-based cancer control projects.

The aim of the program is to provide small amounts of funding to groups to assist with local cancer control needs.

“The Cancer Council NSW wants to help our local communities to work together to develop solutions to local issues,” patron for the Cancer Council in the Hunter Barbara Gaudry said.

“There are many local needs for cancer control that cannot be identified and met from a State perspective. These needs can be more effectively identified and met by local people working together.”

Last year’s grant recipients undertook projects such as hosting local forums for cancer survivors and carers, providing community transport to cancer treatment, installing sun protection shades, providing equipment for community organisations and running a meditation program for cancer patients.

Applications for this year’s grants will be assessed by the Cancer Council’s Hunter Region Advisory Committee.

Applications for grants up to $3000 are now on offer. Applications close on Friday, August 14. For enquiries phone 4923 0703.
