The Maitland Regional Art Gallery will unleash its newest exhibition on Friday night with three Australian artists on show.
Susan O’Doherty’s display of 900 Eyes will transform a 70m exhibition space into a wall-to-wall display.
Mrs O’Doherty’s exhibition is 450 canvas portraits painted over a two-year period from photographs of people who support the arts industry.
The gallery’s public program co-ordinator Kim Blunt said the exhibition was something to behold.
“Susan began taking photos of people at art events a few years ago and it turned into 450 portraits,” she said.
“The result is an amazing collection of interesting faces.”
The gallery’s second exhibition is a joint work between Australian artists Max Miller and Barry Gazzard, who were inspire to travel to the same remote area of NSW every year to paint but never met.
The two were united by cultural director of the gallery Joe Eisenberg into one exhibition entitled Corner Country.
“Each year these two artists independently travel to the same area in NSW to paint and be inspired by the remote region community,” Mrs Blunt said.
“While Barry Gazzard paints abstract art and Max Miller paints figuratively there is a similar starkness between the two’s paintings.
Entry is free for Friday’s exhibition opening, which starts at 6pm.
Max Miller will give a talk about his collection on Saturday from 11am to 1pm.
