He is regarded as one of the world’s finest guitarists and is often revered as the “musician’s musician”, and now Eric Clapton is coming to Pokolbin.
Clapton will travel to the Hunter Valley on March 7 to perform the first concert at Hope Estate’s new 19,000 seat amphitheatre.
The amphitheatre covers 2.5 hectares and is part of a $3 million makeover for the estate.
Clapton’s extraordinary career – spanning 50 years – began in the 1960s with The Yardbirds, evolving through to John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers, Cream, Blind Faith, Delaney & Bonnie and Friends, and Derek and the Dominoes.
Eventually, in 1970, Clapton’s career began a new solo chapter.
Over the years, he has contributed to the albums of many musical icons including Bob Dylan, BB King, Elton John, Sting, Joe Cocker, Roger Waters, Steven Stills, Aretha Franklin, the Rolling Stones and, most famously, George Harrison’s While My Guitar Gently Weeps.
Clapton is honoured as being the only triple inductee into the rock ‘n’ roll hall of fame as a member of both the Yardbirds and Cream and as a solo artist.
Tickets go on sale through Ticketek on October 24.
