Friends rally to family through difficult times

Maitland people are being encouraged to open their hearts and wallets to raise money for Lorn cancer survivor Tania Birss.

The mother and wife stole the hearts of Mercury readers this month as a woman fighting four aggressive brain tumours.

Australian neurosurgeon Dr Charlie Teo removed two of the tumours recently, giving Ms Birss a second chance at life.

A benefit night to raise money for Ms Birss, husband Tim and their children Jed, 8, and Della, 4, will be held at Maitland City Bowling Club on November 27.

Organisers are calling for all those interested to buy their tickets as soon as possible for catering purposes.

Tickets are $50 each and will include a three-course meal and complimentary bottle of wine. There will also be raffles and a silent auction.
