Groovin the mud

28 Apr, 2008 07:20 AM
Groovin the Moo was more like groovin the mud at Maitland Showground on Saturday but for the second consecutive year Sneaky Sound System stole the show.

The Bondi-based electro/pop trio had the raging crowd slipping and sliding all over the place as the festival goers danced, ankle deep in oozing mud, to the old, to the new and even to cover songs.

It did not seem to matter as the people embraced the quagmire-like conditions, some mud wrestling and emerging covered from head to toe, in images reminiscent of the famous Woodstock festival of 1969.

Groovin the Moo (version four) may not have been as well attended or as famous as Woodstock but conditions appeared to be similar and the music played on.

Surprisingly it was the cover songs that worked very well for Sneaky Sound System and at one stage the ARIA award winners slipped Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by the Eurythmics in between their more popular tracks Pictures and UFO.

The reworked beats of the 1983 single were magic but the vocals of Miss Connie took it to the next level and mesmerised punters more than the moonlight.

Sneaky Sound System also did a version of Daft Punk’s Celebrate and the crowd responded with a collective cheer as a sign of approval.

The shift from the dance tent (2007) to the main stage did little to slow Sneaky Sound System down and the penultimate position seemed to be the top spot.

The Presets followed on the adjacent stage and many people voted with their feet, most of which were covered in mud or covered with gumboots, and left the annual music festival early.
