Hairy way to get attention this month

These three men don't usually sport facial hair.
But this month they've ditched the razor to participate in Movember, a fundraising initiative to raise awareness of prostate cancer and depression.
Steve Richard, Steve O'Mara and Chad Lawrence are part of a team of five male staff members at East Maitland Public School to take up the "mo" growing challenge û and they've managed to recruit an additional 20 men from the school community to join their team.
Prompted by school general assistant Phil Howell, the men thought it would be fun to band together for a mens' only activity û considering they were outnumbered by more than 20 female staff.
"I think it's a good cause as depression and prostate cancer are two things men don't want to talk about," Mr Richard, deputy principal, said.
"Keeping the mo has been the hardest part so far."
Mr O'Mara agreed that growing a mo had been a nuisance, but he wanted to support the cause and heighten people's awareness of men's health issues.
"I need to think twice before shaving in the morning and I have to fight the urge not to take it off," he said.
For Mr Lawrence, having facial hair made him feel like he was on holidays.
"It's every man's dream to not have to shave û but I am counting down the days," he said.
With another two weeks of November remaining, Maitland residents are invited to throw their support behind men by making a donation at www.movember.com.au/donate and entering registration number 99870 for access to the East Maitland Public School team details.
Mr Richard is also hoping to organise a fundraising "shave off" at the end of November.
