People in the town of Greta have described Tammy Sindermann and her husband Darren Fishburn as a “great couple” and said they were shocked by the events that unfolded this week.
Mr Fishburn, 42, has not been seen since his wife was found dead in a shed at her grandmother’s house in Greta on Tuesday morning.
Police were continuing to search for Mr Fishburn last night and had broadened their area of focus from their initial target of Wyee in the Lake Macquarie area.
They would not reveal what areas were now included or why their focus had changed at this stage.
Police were scouring bushland in the Lake Macquarie area with the help of Polair and the public order and riot squad who specialised in this type of search.
They were also looking for a red 1989 model Nissan Patrol which they believe Mr Fishburn might be using.
Police were no longer set up at the Wyndham Street crime scene where Ms Sindermann was found dead on Tuesday.
An employee of a Greta store said Mr Fishburn and Ms Sindermann came into the store regularly.
She said they were a lovely couple.
Another of the store’s employees said Mr Fishburn was “a top bloke”.
The pair shared an interest in horses and Mr Fishburn was known for his keen interest in reptiles.
It is believed that Ms Sindermann, 43, had moved into the Wyndham Street home to care for her grandmother Irma Sindermann.
Mrs Sindermann is a long term resident of Greta having lived there for more than 50 years.
If anyone has information regarding the matter they should phone Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
