She may share the same moniker with a certain Brit It girl but Aberglasslyn’s own little Sienna Liva has brought a touch of glamour to the ‘burbs.
At four-and-a-half months, Sienna is a natural in front of the camera – not surprising given her increasingly popular name.
A name made famous by English actress Sienna Miller and one that has made the top 10 Australian girls names for 2008.
This year’s most popular baby names list (by McCrindle research) says names of popular actresses – including Sienna, Scarlett (Johansson), Eva (Longoria), Keira (Knightley) and Angelina (Jolie) – are in vogue and Maitland bubs happily follow the trend.
“We did choose Sienna after Sienna Miller but mainly because we thought it was such a pretty name,” Sienna’s mother Nicole Liva said.
“We actually had it picked out for our first child but he was a boy so we had to wait.
“But I have noticed it’s become quite popular, which is a bit annoying.”
Sienna hit the number 10 spot of the top Aussie girls names, beaten by Ella for first place and Emily at number two.
For boys, Jack topped the list and Joshua was the second most popular name.
In the 1950s, John was the most popular boys name. Now for every baby named John today, there are four named Dylan, Tyler, Jayden or Bailey.
Mark McCrindle from McCrindle research said Generation X parents were also keen to give their children names that stood out from the crowd.
“Gen X parents are being very intentional in every aspect of their parenting,” Mr McCrindle said.
“And they are trying to give their children an individual identity, just like everybody else.”
He said unusual spelling of names was also a growing trend.
“The use of y instead of i has hit epidemic proportions as has the use of k over c (as in Jaycob and Lynkon).”
Maitland parents have done their best in the original names stakes this year by naming their children Nakia, Caydence, Armani, Norrington and Keeta.
