Town to lose police presence

03 Nov, 2009 07:31 AM
Aberdeen will be without a permanent police presence in the near future after plans to close down the local police station and list the property for sale were confirmed by Upper Hunter MP George Souris.

“I have it confirmed that NSW Police HQs Property Department will list the property for sale in the immediate future and has no plans to re-establish a police presence, be it shop front or alternative,” Mr Souris said.

“This completely unexpected cut cannot be tolerated.”

Mr Souris said the Upper Hunter was experiencing growth and that Aberdeen was strategically placed on the New England Highway between Scone and Muswellbrook.

“I call on Premier Nathan Rees, the Minister for Police, and the Minister for the Hunter to place an immediate halt on the transaction and undertake meaningful consultation with the local community with a view to ensuring Aberdeen is not left in the lurch.”
