Watering hole fills with pseudo Irish

Watering hole fills with pseudo Irish

18 Mar, 2010 07:22 AM
Former Dubliner Vicki Gamble was among the few authentic Irishmen and women who chose to celebrate St Patrick’s Day in Maitland at Shenanigans at the Imperial, yesterday.

Owner of the High Street watering hole Mike Thomas said the half dozen truly Irish punters were seriously outnumbered by the “pseudo-Irish”.

“We’ve had a hell of a lot of what we call ‘Irish-for-a-day’ customers,” he said.

Meanwhile, hundreds of thousands of Irish revellers were expected at St Patrick’s Day parades in Ireland and other countries today, as the famously

fun-loving country parties despite the biting recession.

The traditional feast day of Ireland patron’s saint has become one of the world’s most recognised national holidays.
