Police have arrested two women and seized 41 pairs of shoes believed to have been stolen from the Scud shoe shop that was torched in Maitland’s Heritage Mall on Wednesday.
Two 51-year-old women were charged with receiving stolen property when police executed a search warrant on a property at Raymond Terrace.
“Officers from the Central Hunter Command went to a house in Raymond Terrace at 4pm on Wednesday where they executed a search warrant,” crime manager Detective Inspector Dave Nixon told the Mercury yesterday.
“A total of 41 pairs of skate shoes were seized, together with a large quantity of women’s clothing, jewellery, sunglasses and handbags,” he said.
“We believe the shoes were from the Scud store that was broken into.
“The other property seized may be from other break-ins in the Maitland area.”
Two 51-year-old women were arrested and charged with receiving stolen property.
They were bailed to appear in Raymond Terrace Local Court on December 1.
“Maitland detectives are continuing their inquiries into the break and enter and fire at the Scud shoe store in which three males are believed to be the offenders,” Det Insp Nixon
said.
