It will be the winners up against winners and losers up against losers in round two of the Maitland and District Cricket Association competition this weekend.
First round victors Western Suburbs, Tenambit Morpeth, Northern Suburbs and Eastern Suburbs will square off against each other respectively as will those defeated on Saturday in the season opener – Weston, Raymond Terrace, Thornton Park and City United.
City, the defending premiers, will have the services of all-rounder Josh Trappel (pictured) for one more match after he returned home to play prior to the start of his season with the Tasmania University Cricket Club in the Tasmania Cricket Association first grade competition.
But as one face prepares to depart from postcode 2320 another appears.
Western Suburbs will welcome Dustin McGrath into their line-up on Saturday when the Plovers take on Tenambit Morpeth in a one day match at Coronation Oval. McGrath, 22, has moved to the area from Brisbane and despite not playing the last two seasons Plovers skipper Andrew Trappel said he was impressed with what he had seen so far from the right-arm quick.
“He will bowl his 10 overs this weekend, he is a good medium pacer,” Trappel said.
“He has played first grade (for Ipswich) in Brisbane, which is a bit of a better standard than Maitland so he must go alright.”
McGrath will be one of six new additions to the Plovers team that defeated Weston by eight wickets on Saturday.
Justin Partridge will come up to first grade and open the batting alongside Chris Goward while Mitchell Saxby and Lincoln Mudd have also been elevated to the top team.
Taylor Scott, Aaron Mahony and Tom Irwin are all unavailable with representative duties, Alex Threadgate (knee) and Justin Lantry (ankle) have injuries, Josh Threadgate is also unavailable and two players are yet to be named.
For Tenambit Morpeth, off-spinner Mitchell Nolan comes in for Jordan Callinan.
In the remaining matches Tom Fairweather will take the gloves for Tom Keath, who is unavailable with HSC commitments, when Norths meet Easts at East Maitland Park, while the home team welcome back Jason Allen.
City face Thornton at Thornton and Raymond Terrace will host Weston at Jack Collins Oval.
w In other cricket news six players from the Maitland area will represent Central North at the under-17 Northern NSW Carnival at Newcastle on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Jesse Caulfield (Norths) will skipper the defending premiers while Scott, Mahony, Irwin (Wests), Blake Walmsley and Daniel McGovern (Thornton) will also be vying for a spot in the under-17s Northern NSW squad.
