Getting one horse ready for a demanding dressage competition is effort enough.
Together Christine Crawford and Jeremy Janjic will present six horses, across a wide level of expertise from beginner to Olympic level, during the next three days.
The Luskintyre couple are a force to be reckoned with in the Sydney Concours de Dressage Internationale (CDI) and young horse competition, which will be held from Thursday to Sunday.
Crawford is on the national development squad riding the talented Northern Simba and will also ride two other horses during the weekend.
Janjic will ride two Fresian stallions and another youngster.
The pair is among a large Hunter Valley contingent that will take part in the CDI, which has attracted a record 80 entries this year.
The pair have six horses to compete over a gruelling three days:
* Jacarna TK, who went into the top 10 young horses in the recent Melbourne young horse competition;
* Django of Cacharel, who will compete in dressage and will also perform in the national stallion parade;
* Northern Simba, who Crawford will ride at Olympic level;
* Jazz Song, again ridden by Crawford in a young horse class, which scored fifth at the recent Melbourne young horse contest;
* Sandrels, an up-and-coming imported young stallion with impressive dressage bloodlines, who will also appear in the stallion parade, and;
* Kaludah Renoir, which Janjic will ride in the young horse competition.
To top all this off, Crawford has been chosen to ride on Saturday for the Prix St Georges Derby.
Two riders from each nation take part (including two Australian representatives).
The riders draw a horse out of a hat. Because of the quarantine restrictions it is difficult to bring horses into the country so each derby rider has to compete on an unknown horse.
Crawford has only half an hour to familiarise herself with the horse before going before the judges.
Meanwhile, Lochinvar Olympic hopeful Heath Ryan will compete his own Grand Prix Level horse Regardez Moi at the three-day competition before flying to Europe on Sunday where he will be up against his wife Rozzie and her horse Donna Carrera for a shot at Beijing.
The pair will be among the Australians competing in the final Olympic qualifiers, at Wiesbaden, Germany on May 8 to 11 and in Lingen, Germany from May 29 to June 1.
