The Maitland Ladies Championships wrapped up at the Maitland Golf Club yesterday.
There were no surprises at the end of the A-grade season with Melissa Beavis being crowned the 2008 club champion.
Tenambit teenager Samantha Sinclair added to her successful history at the Maitland course, winning the 2008 Daphne Latter Rose Bowl.
Yesterday was the third round of the championship. Beavis went into the final round with a handy five-shot lead and withstood some uncomfortable conditions to hold off the rest of the field.
“It was freezing and I don’t think anyone really felt like getting up and coming to golf, and the greens were very fast,” Maitland Ladies Golf publicity officer Heather Keith said.
“It is always a very highly contested event, we are really the only course around here besides Branxton.
“People have to organise days off to come and play, it’s quite a big deal.”
Yesterday was the third and final round of the championship where players added their scores to those from the first and second rounds on August 13 and 15.
In yesterday’s B-grade results Dianne Coutts took out first place while Edith Cousins won the B-grade nett title.
In C-grade June Ernst completed the double, walking away with the best championship and nett scores.
