Almost 250 athletes from across the state converged on the Hunter River for the annual event with club officials rapt in the turnout.

“It was the biggest regatta, in terms of numbers, we have had to date,” Endeavour regatta secretary Jill Carlstrom said.

“Add to that the supporters and coaches and the place was packed.

“The club was pretty stoked with it all.”

And the event was held just days after a week of constant rain, meaning flood water from up the valley could have been an issue.

But the rowers were met with a sun-drenched day on calm water following a foggy morning.

“It was a great day,” Carlstrom said.

“We were very lucky with all that rain we had but it was just such a beautiful day.

“We started off with a fog but once it rose everything was clear and the water was sensational.”

Carlstrom said the club received nothing but praise from the various visiting parties following the event.

“They all love coming here and seeing what we have to offer,” she said.

“And they all comment on how friendly we are.”

On the water and Endeavour had multiple medal winners in David Hislop, Sean Donza and Mark Neilson while Andrew Budworth, a Maitland Grossmann High School student, picked up a gold medal.

“We had some very pleasing results,” Carlstrom said.
