Rutherford Technology High School was Maitland’s sole survivor of the senior Knights Knockout competition semi-finals on Monday night.
Rutherford defeated Lambton High School
30-10 in the under-15s category at Lakeside, Raymond Terrace, while both the under-13 and the under-14 teams from All Saints College, St Joseph’s Campus, Lochinvar, were beaten in the final four stage.
In the under-14s, Lochinvar went down
20-12 to Wallsend’s Callaghan College at St John Oval, Charlestown, while the under-13s were defeated by St Pius, Adamstown, 18-12 at Lakeside.
At the same venue in the under-15s, Rutherford accounted for Lambton in the semi-final after defeating Morriset 26-6 in the quarter final earlier that night.
Rutherford halfback Jyson Ericksen scored three tries in the opening fixture for last year’s under-14 Bucklee Shield winners while fullback Jay Smith scored a double in both.
Rutherford coach Paul Johns said the Rutherford team had done well to come back from a 10-6 deficit in the semi-final.
“In the second half we come back and blew them off the park and really overwhelmed them,” Johns said.
The finals will be played at Birmingham Gardens on July 8.
