Maitland dogs in running for Anzac sprint

Three greyhounds from the Maitland district will vie for the Anzac Day Sprint title this afternoon.

Turlinjah, Wanted Felon and Barney’s Lee will fly the local flag in the fourth grade event at the Maitland Showground track.

Turlinjah is trained at Clarence Town by Bruce Buckley and he will look to open his winning account at Maitland in his third start over the 450 metre distance.

Wanted Felon is prepared by Robert Browne at Abedare and he will have his first start at Maitland Greyhound Club meetings after two wins at both Wentworth Park and The Gardens over the past eight months.

As for the experienced Barney’s Lee, with 65 starts next to his name, Lochinvar trainer Raymond Lee will be hoping that his charge can eclipse the time of 25.35 seconds recorded at Maitland over the same distance on June 3 almost two years ago.

Rounding out the field is Durbridge, Lil’ Dancer, Greendale and first reserve Catch Me Nannu, which comes in for Champ Kind in box four.

Ate To Much has also been scratched leaving box five vacant for the 2012 Anzac Day Sprint at this time.

In other races on the 10-event card, Ballin and Spade Zsa Trumps back up from wins at last week’s Gold Cup meeting while two Maitland To City heats will also be run along with three heats in a maiden series.

The twilight meeting starts at 3.59pm.
