5.44am, but definitely worth the early rise

It wasn’t quite the Mother’s Day Kelli Heywood had planned but it was the one that made her dreams come true.

At 5.44am yesterday Ms Heywood gave birth to daughter Lilliana Maye at Maitland Hospital following a two-hour labour and a week after her due date.

“Lilliana was due last weekend but I think she wanted to make a special arrival,” Ms Heywood, 26, of Metford, said.

“I was hoping to spend Mother’s Day in bed with the children followed by a day at the park – that didn’t happen, but this is much better.

“I certainly had a tear in my eye when I saw all of my children together this morning.”

But Ms Heywood and partner Michael Barusic aren’t the only ones besotted by baby Lilliana. Big brother Nicholas, 9, and sister Ashleigh, 7, are also thrilled with the new arrival.

“She is very cute and we can’t wait to help mum with her,” Nicholas said.
