Driver taken to hospital after crashing into house

A 60-year-old woman was taken to Maitland Hospital yesterday by ambulance in a stable condition after the car she was driving crashed into a house.

NSW Ambulance, police and NSW Fire Brigade were called to the Denton Park Drive address at 11.09am.

The car was lodged boot first in the new brick and tile house when emergency services arrived at the scene.

Residents of the retirement village looked on as the woman was freed from the car.

Speculation was rife among onlookers as to whether the driver had selected the wrong gear or had hit the accelerator instead of brake.

Emergency services secured the building with screw jacks until a structural engineer could assess the situation.

Whether the car was a write off is unknown. The structural engineer will assess if the house is salvageable.

It was one of three incidents within an hour yesterday that emergency services responded to in the Maitland local area command, that included a house fire at Paterson and a diesel spill on Lovedale Road, Lovedale.
