Mall lunch and punch

A Rutherford mother has pleaded guilty to assaulting her former partner in Maitland Heritage Mall earlier this year.

Maitland Local Court heard that Amanda Jayne Alexander, of Churchill Crescent, repeatedly hit her former partner in front of her two children on March 13.

The couple, their 12 month-old-child, and Alexander’s four-year-old child met and ate lunch at the mall about 11am.

When the man said he was going to leave, Alexander became aggressive and began to argue with him, repeatedly calling him a s—-.

Documents tendered to the court said the pair walked a short distance to public toilets where she continued to argue. Alexander raised her fist and punched the man in the head four to five times, the court heard.

She grabbed the man by the throat and pushed him against a wall before releasing her grip.

The man walked away but was followed by Alexander who began to hit him in the back as he pushed a pram carrying one of the children.

He walked to the security office in the mall and she followed, hitting him in the head and ear as he picked up the child from the pram.

Alexander was asked to leave the office as she continued to abuse the man.

Her solicitor told the court she was extremely remorseful for the attack and was acting out of character as she had not seen her 12-month-old child for some time because of a relationship breakdown with the father.

The matter was adjourned to July 30.
