Through the production of a book and short film documentary, the project will detail the organisation’s rich history and contribution to the Maitland and wider Hunter Valley communities.
The history project has revealed some fantastic photos of members of the Maitland and surrounding communities, many of whom are still associated with the organisation today.
One of the photographs shows Glenn Warby, Bill Folpp and Paul Blanchard how they were in 1967 and how they are now.
All three are still involved with The Mai-Wel Group 45 years later and the photograph is just a small example of how the history of the organisation is being retold.
This project has been made possible through a grant from the Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities under the “Sharing Community Heritage Stories” section.
Former journalist and researcher Alek Schulha is volunteering his time to assist with the project.
“It’s a great opportunity for the people of Maitland to contribute to recording the wonderful history of Mai-Wel. Every little bit helps in order to put the pieces of the puzzle together to help link Mai-Wel with its past,” Mr Schulha said.
“We have received a great response from the local community and organisations and I look forward to seeing the project come to fruition.”
The history book will display photos, newspaper clippings, minutes from meetings and other documents linking The Mai-Wel Group to its past.
While the documentary will allow for real-life vision and interviews with the visionaries who helped create The Mai-Wel Group.
It is hoped to be a highly valuable piece of history for the many generations to come. sIt is not too late to submit any information you may have regarding the organisation’s history.
