For the best part of this year Cliff and Lachlan have been on opposite sides of the world doing their own thing, after a lifetime of competing at the same events.
But this weekend, and into the new year, the bull riders from Gresford will be at each other’s side.
Both men will head to the US in early 2013 to try their luck on the most lucrative circuit the sport has to offer, but first they will contest a few Australian shows, including Saturday night’s Tamworth Invitational.
“I think dad will stress out even more now that we’re both going away,” Cliff said.
“But I’m definitely looking forward to it.”
Cliff, 21, will relocate to live with younger brother Lachlan, 20, in Texas at the end of January.
Lachlan, who has been living in the southern US state with Kempsey rider Pete Farley since February, will travel back slightly earlier in time for the opening round of the 2013 Professional Bull Riders (PRR) Built Ford Tough Series, being held in New York on January 4.
This will be his second year in the series after impressing on debut in 2012 following a maiden win in Uncasville on April 27.
The triumph earned Lachlan a fair prize packet, $38,900 to be precise, and plenty of street credit after securing an 89.5 point ride on board renowned bull Jack Daniel’s After Party in the championship round.
This was the highlight for Lachlan, who finished 34th on the overall standings, in a year he described as a steep learning curve.
“You learn something all the time,” he said.
“Just being there amongst all those good riders, it’s such a good experience.
“I didn’t ride as well as I wanted to but I did alright.”
Lachlan, who also won the Brendon Clark Invitational held in Newcastle in June, will attempt to improve upon his US status in 2013 while Cliff will attempt to break into the world’s top league by riding in the various Touring Pro and Challenger events on offer.
In the meantime, they will both ride in Tamworth on Saturday night following previous PBR events in Townsville and Wollongong during the past month.
Smaller tour events will take place throughout December, including a trip to the northern Queensland town of Charters Towers.
The pair will be up against one another on each occasion while at home but they wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I rather it actually,” Cliff said.
“I’m used to it and prefer riding against him [Lachlan].”
