This is the plan for the Maitland Toyota Steamfest where a carriage generator will be used to power lights above the rally ground.
Steamfest vice-chairman and Maitland councillor Peter Garnham said this was possible because of the 3801 crew at the Eveleigh yard in Sydney who donated a fully refurbished carriage generator that will power the lights.
Experts completed the wiring for the generator yesterday so it is ready to power the lights one month out from the festival.
“It will bring a different atmosphere,” Cr Garnham said.
“It has taken us 12 months to work towards the night steaming, and it is something that you don’t see very often. I think people will really enjoy it.”
Cr Garnham said the committee was looking at ways to diversify the event and improve the atmosphere for exhibitors and visitors.
The festival’s 30th anniversary will be celebrated in 2015.
This year’s festival is scheduled for April 13 and 14.
