Maitland Neighbourhood Centre will hold five barbecues in Woodberry from Monday to get to know the community.
The centre hopes to set up a permanent weekly service in the suburb and has organised a free weekly barbecue each Monday for five weeks to speak to residents.
Each Meet Eat Greet event will have a different theme and giveaways for people who come along.
Manager Naomi Rees encouraged residents to attend the free barbecues.
"We've always been in Woodberry with programs and now we want to extend our services there," she said.
"The five barbecues are about asking the Woodberry community if they would like to have us there and if they will welcome us into their community.
"We want them to know we are here if they need us and if they come and connect with us at the barbecues we would be humbled and honoured."
The free weekly barbecues will be held in the Noel Unicomb Hall from 10am each Monday until August 27.
