They all play rugby league together for the East Maitland Griffins.
And they all play together in the same Maitland junior representative team.
Now, despite attending different primary schools, this talented trio will combine at state level.
Ethan Butterfield of St Paul’s Rutherford, Thomas Cant of St Joseph’s East Maitland and Sam Robinson of St John’s Maitland will attend the NSW Primary School Sports Association Under-11 Rugby League Championships at Hoxton Park next month.
This follows their selection in the under-11 squad for Polding, which is the northern NSW Catholic primary schools region.
The utility forwards were picked in the 17-boy squad based on performances at Polding trials in Bathurst last week when playing for the Maitland-Newcastle diocesan team, which won three matches, drew one and lost another at the tournament.
Eighty-eight students attended the selection trials.
In the older ranks of the school system Will Trow of Our Lady of Lourdes has been picked in the under-12 Polding team to contest the NSW PSSA Rugby League Championships in Dubbo for three days from June 18.
In the meantime Butterfield, Cant and Robinson will line up for the Griffins in the Maitland and District Schoolboys Rugby League under-11 competition, which includes Saturday’s fifth round fixture against the Kurri Kurri Bulldogs at Margaret Johns Oval.
The Griffins have lost only the one game this season.
Later in the year the East Maitland under 11s will head to Queensland for the return leg of the 40th anniversary schoolboys inter-club partnership with Ipswich.
