Two face court after Rutherford break-in

Police have arrested two males who will appear in court later today after executing a search warrant at a home in Rutherford.

In the early hours of Thursday a tyre retailer in East Maitland, offender/s removed a safe, cash, computers, keys and a camera.

Central Hunter Local Area Command police officers later executed a search warrant at a home in Gillies Street,Rutherford about 4.30pm.

Two males were arrested at the home and police seized two shortened firearms, ammunition, clothing, computer equipment, cannabis and other items alleged to have been taken at the earlier break-in.

The males were taken to Maitland Police Station and charged with several offences.

A 33-year-old man from Rutherford was charged with property, drug and firearms offences.

A 17-year-old youth was charged with five outstanding arrest warrants.

Both males were refused bail to appear at the Maitland Local and Maitland Children’s Court today.

After receiving additional information, detectives attended an address in Aliance Street, East Maitland about 11.30pm where they executed another search warrant. Police seized a safe, suspected of being stolen from the tyre retailer business.

Investigations into the break-in continue.
