The Maitland Rams have kept their position in the top four of the Hunter Coast Premier Hockey League following a hard fought 3-1 victory against Gosford yesterday.
The Rams held onto a one goal advantage for most of the round 12 fixture at Wyong but a late strike from Matt Hoosan sealed the deal for the visitors.
“It was a pretty tough contest,” Rams manager Glen Meehan said.
“And even though we led by one it wasn’t really until we put that third one away that we were safe.
“They dominated early in the second half and we were under the pump there for a while but we were able to hold on and get the chocolates.”
Coach Nathan Baker scored a first-half double in his return to the grade before the hosts hit back.
The Rams took a 2-1 lead into the break.
Maitland went into this weekend in a share of third position on the competition table with Norths but the defending premiers were slightly ahead on goal differential.
