Greg Bird is on the verge of history.
Not only is the former West Maitland junior hoping to break Queensland’s recent dominance and help NSW to their first State of Origin series victory since 2005, but another outstanding
individual performance in tonight’s decider at Suncorp Stadium could put him in illustrious company.
Bird was man-of-the-match in the Blues’ 16-12 victory in game two, which takes his career total to three from 10 Origin outings and only great halfbacks Andrew Johns and Peter Sterling are in front of him with four best on ground awards.
The stage has been set and the Maroons are well aware of the impact Bird has on the team.
“He is the heart and soul of the team, Birdy is a true leader for NSW out there,” Queensland opponent and Bird’s teammate at the Gold Coast Titans Nate Myles said in an interview earlier this week. Kick off is 8pm.
