Rutherford Football Club 45th anniversary.
Rutherford Football Club is appealing for support after a slow response to its 45th birthday gala dinner this weekend.
Club secretary Kylie Parsons said the club needs help to sell more tickets to the event, which includes football legends Gary Van Egmond, Jimmy Fraser and Joanne Peters.
The club was founded in 1967 with one team and has grown to 43 teams this year, catering for ages from four to 40-plus.
The home ground is Norm Chapman Oval, which hosts games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday during the football season. The oval was named after one of its founding members.
Ms Parsons said the club is proud of its history and presents memorial trophies to candidates every year to honour its founding members.
“The club has experienced many changes throughout the years and relied on and relished the support of many volunteers with generations of families involved,” she said.
A formal dinner will be held at Maitland City Bowls, Sports and Recreation Club on Saturday at 6.30pm.
It is open to all members, volunteers, sponsors and all past and present families involved with the club.
