Joan New and Megan Prior, who have been delivering meals together for the past 10 years, have called it a day after dedicating their lives to volunteering since 1983.
Meals on Wheels provide aged and disabled people with a variety of nutritious meals.
Former president of Meals on Wheels, Barbara Heckman, said it would be sad to see two of their longest serving volunteers go.
“We’re definitely going to miss them,” Mrs Heckman said.
“They’ve always been there and they’ve been a wonderful part of Meals on Wheels.”
Mrs New said the chance to help others was the driving force behind her volunteer work.
“It’s nice to be able to help out,” she said.
“You also get to see the town; we’ve done the areas around Maitland, East Maitland, Gillieston Heights, Metford and we started at Lorn.
“And you get to meet a lot of people who you otherwise wouldn’t get the chance to meet.”
Mrs Prior said she would encourage others to become involved in volunteering.
“Volunteering is wonderful and it only takes a few hours to make a difference,” Mrs Prior said.
“You get to know so many lovely people as well.”
