Thrilling draw sets up exciting final series

A thrilling final day of the Maitland A-grade netball regular season saw HVE Transport hang onto fourth place and qualify for the finals, with Lantry Plumbing missing out.

The battle for second place was also decided, with Hano’s HVE clinging onto their place after securing an exciting draw with George Tavern.

HVE Transport went into the day in fourth place, needing to beat Family Hotel to guarantee a spot in the finals.

Lantry Plumbing required a victory against Queens Arms and Family Hotel to upset HVE Transport to scrape into the finals.

But it wasn’t to be for Lantry Plumbing.

While they did their job by claiming a 38-27 win over Queens Arms, HVE Transport rose above the pressure to win with a 46-32 triumph.

In the battle to decide second place, a seesawing contest saw Hano’s HVE finish the season behind minor premiers Hills Solicitors with a thrilling 43-all draw.

In the final game of round 14, Hills Solicitors celebrated their minor premiership in fine style with a comfortable 63-33 win over Coalfield Comets.

The win gives Hills Solicitors their second consecutive minor premiership. But they will look to go one better in 2012 and claim a grand final win after being the dominant team for the last few years.

Coalfield Comets finished the season last without a win.

Next week Hills Solicitors take on Hano’s HVE in the major semi final, while George Tavern will clash with HVE Transport in the minor semi.
