The revitalisation of High Street is gathering momentum with the opening of a sophisticated wine bar.

Opening this week, Fox Bar was designed as a venue with a difference for Maitland’s growing population.

“Maitland has always been very deep in its roots and heritage but the after dusk activity here is very limited,” bar owner Will Creedon said.

“This city is one dimensional in its night time economy, especially after 9pm, so we want to change all that.

“There is an influx of people coming into Maitland and their lifestyle needs to be catered for. There is a gaping, obvious

opportunity for something and that’s what we’re about.”

Mr Creedon said Fox Bar would target towards those who wanted to experience a different side of Maitland’s nightlife.

“Maitland looks after the 18-year-olds very well, no question about it, but for those who are little bit more discerning or that little bit older, there really isn’t a lot,” he said.

Fox Bar will feature wines from the Hunter Valley and beer from boutique breweries across Australia.

“The bar isn’t terribly big but there is a lot of depth to it and given the right environment and the right opportunity, Maitland

will embrace this bar and it will flourish,” he said.

“Everybody needs to do their little piece and before we know it every part of Maitland will be thriving. I look at this end of Maitland and I think things can only get better.”
