The Kookaburras 2-all draw with Argentina on Friday may be just the shake up the world number one team needed in their quest for gold at London 2012.
Unchallenged in their opening two encounters against South Africa (6-0) and Spain (5-0) the Kookaburras, which includes Maitland’s Simon Orchard, were brought back to earth by the South American squad after leading 2-0 shortly after half-time.
The advantage was wiped away by Argentina during the second half and Kookaburras coach Ric Charlesworth said the Australian team had failed to put away their chances.
“I have said all along that we need to keep improving all the way through the tournament,” he said in an Australian Olympic Committee media release.
“I don’t think we finished our last two games off well and today we saw more of that.
“When you make so many good chances you would want to get a better share.”
