The trailer is the next stage of the film project launched earlier this year.
“The trailer takes place in New York and flashes back to Darcy’s time in Maitland, Newcastle and Sydney,” Hunter filmmaker and actor Zac Garred said.
Earlier this year Garred and childhood friend Tom Arthur, both 26, launched a campaign to bring the story of the Australian icon and Maitland boxing legend to the big screen after buying the screen rights of Peter FitzSimons’ book The Ballad of Les Darcy.
The pair raised more than $3600 in pledges through Pozible – a crowd-funding platform for creative projects and ideas.
Garred, who is also training to play the role of Darcy, has recently returned from Los Angeles where he met with potential producers and investors for the film.
“I’m incredibly enthused and this trip to the LA was sublime,” Garred said.
“It made me so happy to go over and spruik the film and the response was phenomenal. It was such a relief and so warming to know that so many people know this wonderful Maitland story.
“I know it’s a cliche but I do believe that if you build it they will come,” Garred said.
