An East Maitland man pleaded not to bashing his father and brother.
An East Maitland couple were so afraid of their son they locked themselves in their bedroom for several hours, a court heard.
Linden Jaye King, of High Street, is accused of assaulting his father, mother and brother over two days.
Police documents tendered to the court said King, 27, had been using cannabis since he was 15 and his behaviour had become more erratic and violent as his substance abuse increased.
His paranoid behaviour went as far as building a fortress in the back shed of his parents’ backyard, police said.
When his parents refused him money on August 6 he allegedly attempted to slam a door in his father’s face, pushed him and grabbed him by the throat.
The court heard King raised his hand and said: “I’m gonna do ya. Tonight’s the night, you’ve pushed me too far. I can’t take anymore you old c—-. You old f—-.”
When his mother stepped between the pair, King allegedly grabbed her wrists to pull her away and punched his father in the chest repeatedly.
He was arrested and taken to Maitland police station where an apprehended violence order was established against him to protect his parents.
King arrived home the following day about 4am and had a conversation with his father, who later locked himself and his wife in their room after King left again.
One of the couple’s other sons came to the house about 10.15am after the couple sent a message that they had locked themselves in.
While King’s brother was speaking to his parents King returned and was allegedly aggressive, yelling: “You want to see my child taken away don’t you.”
King allegedly punched his brother in the head five times.
In court on Friday, King said he was not a threat to society.
He was granted bail to live in Stanford Merthyr on the condition someone deposit $500 that is to be forfeited if he breaches bail.
King pleaded not guilty to two counts of common assault, common assault occasioning actual bodily harm, intimidation and contravening an AVO.
The matter was adjourned to Thursday.
