More than 10 projects worth up to $2 million are under way at nine schools across Maitland during the summer school holidays.
The 11 projects include a modular double classroom block at Bolwarra Public School, a lift installation at Maitland Grossmann High School, ceiling repairs and high visibility painting at Rutherford Technology High School, the installation of handrails and ramps at Rutherford Public School and sewer rectification work at Gillieston Public School.
"In 2013/14, $420 million of capital works funding is being invested in NSW public schools," Member for Maitland Robyn Parker said.
"Minor capital works, including construction of permanent classrooms and much needed facilities, are being provided across the state at a cost of $204 million."
NSW public school students will return to school from Wednesday, January 29.
"Starting school can be daunting for many students," Ms Parker said.
"Help is also available to parents and caregivers via the Back-to-School hotline on 1300 738 338.
"The hotline will be available between 8.30am and 4.30pm weekdays from Tuesday, January 28 until Friday, February 14."
