The search continues for a man who was seen on train tracks at Hexham following an armed robbery this morning.
Police received reports of a man on the train tracks shortly after an armed robbery at Hungry Jacks at Hexham.
The male who robbed the restaurant is possibly in his mid to late 20's, but
until police speak to witnesses there are no further details on the
offender's description.
Police have not linked the man spotted on the train tracks with the robbery.
Police want to speak to the man because he may or may not be able to assist
with their enquiries.
An eye witness told the Mercury he saw police cars searching up and down the
highway parallel to the railway tracks looking for the male and then police
stopped to search across from the BP service station near the Hexham Bridge.
The witness said he did not see anyone on the train track.
" We have had these reports so it's something we have to follow through,"
duty officer Glenn Blain said.
"We believe the man has climbed onto part of the coal train."
There is one police dog on the scene searching the area and seven police
cars on site.
Several police are wearing protective vests.
