They have been named as 35-year-old Philip Grant of Metford and 49-year-old Jamie Mitchell of Aberdare.
About 9.15pm (Tuesday 15 April 2014), emergency services were called to a mine on Middle Road at Paxton, following reports of a wall collapse at the site.
Officers have been told seven miners were working about 500m below the surface when the wall collapsed, trapping two workers.
The remaining miners attempted to rescue their colleagues but were unable to reach them and called for help.
Engineers and NSW Ambulance Paramedics entered the mine in an attempt to reach them, but at 12.15am today (Wednesday 16 April 2014) it was confirmed both men had died.
The police operation to recover their bodies continues, along with investigations into the circumstances concerning their deaths.
