Mackay has a pair of live chances in the heats of the Anzac Cup at the Maitland Showground track and will also make an appearance in Sydney on Saturday night.
Zipping Weston and Zipping Bruno from Mackay’s Richmond Vale kennel are among the chances in the Magic Maiden Series at Wentworth Park, with the winner to pocket $25,000.
At Maitland, Mackay’s fawn bitch Tricky Rose has seven wins from her first 10 starts and is the favourite to take out the third Anzac Cup heat after an ideal box draw.
Tricky Rose will jump from box one and is the one to beat over the 450m journey.
Lochinvar trainer Louise McGee’s black dog Sweeney’s First will look to challenge Tricky Rose in the third heat.
Sweeney’s First has placed well in his last two starts at Maitland and may be ready to cause an upset.
McGee also has Buzzword in the first heat.
Heat two appears to be the most open, with all winners and runners-up to advance to next week’s final.
Maitland Greyhound Club sponsorship and promotions manager Fred Robertson said he was pleased to see the quality in the heats.
“I’m really happy with the field, it looks like we have four very strong heats,” he said.
“I didn’t think we’d get four (heats), with it being over 450m and coming into Easter.
“Many people travel away with their dogs but for us to get four full heats is very pleasing.”
Robertson said his best bet of the day is Silver Steel from McGee’s Lochinvar kennel in race 10.
Racing starts at 3.57pm.
