“The NSW government has delivered a number of improvements at Wallarobba station to provide better access for customers and to make their lives easier,” Upper Hunter MP and Minister for Hunter George Souris said.
A new platform access ramp and a disabled parking space will make it easier for people with mobility difficulties to catch the train.
New lights and closed circuit cameras have been installed to deter antisocial behaviour.
“A number of improvements have already been delivered across the Hunter region under the Transport Access Program, including accessibility and security upgrades at Hamilton, Singleton, Scone, Greta and Dungog stations,” Mr Souris said.
Dungog mayor, Cr Harold Johnston, said the old access ramp failed to meet access requirements being four times steeper than permissible under state guidelines.
“There is an ageing population out there,” Cr Johnston said.
“Now we have a station that meets the needs of those residents.”
Mr Souris said the project was an example of the state government’s commitment to delivering better public transport solutions.
“Other improvements have also been completed at Aberdeen, Adamstown, Cardiff and Newcastle stations,” he said.
