The 16-year-old from Ashtonfield has been selected in a NSW under 17s academy squad after impressing at the under 17 Country Boys Coaching Class in Sydney last week.
Selection in the squad means training twice a week in Sydney and a possible pathway to the NSW under 17s representative team.
Magann had a huge 2013-14 season, having been part of the Eastern Suburbs first grade team that made the semi-finals as well as captaining the Maitland under 16s rep team.
The Maitland Grossmann High School student was also part of the Hunter side at the NSW CHS Championships in Sydney and was picked in the Central North under 19s.
He was also part of the Central North under 16s team that narrowly missed the final of the NSW Country Championships.
And Magann said he was thrilled to be included in the state squad.
“I was delighted to be picked,” he said.
“I definitely wasn’t expecting it, I guess I was hopeful but that was about it.”
Magann was coached by former and current first class players including former Australian quick Geoff Lawson, Dan Smith and Grant Lambert at the Blacktown International Sport Centre over three days.
He said learning from former representative stars and playing against youngsters from Sydney and across NSW was good for his development.
“The coaching was really good,” he said.
“They all had plenty of time for us and they knew a lot.
“Whenever you needed a hand they were always there.”
The left-arm paceman said he was focused on improving as much as possible over the next few years.
“I want to stay in Maitland for the next couple of seasons and then see what happens,” he said.
“I set myself a lot of goals this year and I achieved most of them but I want to have a good off-season and go again next year.”
