One dead in horror crash at Seaham

One person is dead following a single vehicle car crash near Seaham on Thursday night.

The vehicle was ripped in half after it left the road and hit a power pole about 6pm.

The passenger seat of the silver sedan was thrown from the car on impact.

Power lines on the road blocked both north and southbound lanes.

The accident occurred on Clarence Town Road, 400 or 500 metres west of Timber Top Road,   about a kilometre from Seaham.

Power lines on the road

prevented police from immediately checking the second half of car for more victims.

Police media declined to release the gender of the deceased person until relatives had been informed.

“Despite the efforts of

emergency services, the driver of the vehicle died,” a police media spokesman said.

Newcastle Crash Investigaions were continuing their inquiries last night.

A report was being prepared for the coroner.

The road remained closed at the time the Mercury went to press on Thursday night.
