The Aberglasslyn man will present a selection of birds at the Rare Poultry Breeder’s Association’s annual show on Saturday.
This year marks the ninth edition of the show at Maitland Showground’s poultry pavilion and organisers expect it to be the biggest yet.
More than 650 birds were on display last year and came from as far away as north Queensland.
Mr Tydeman said he enjoyed the birds’ individual traits.
“From their looks and the variety as well as their personalities, some of them have very distinct personalities,” he said.
“The gold and silver sebrights will strut around with their chests out and things like that.”
Mr Tydeman has about 30 rare birds including Houdans, gold and silver sebrights and the featured bird of this year’s show, the white crested Polish.
“I like seeing the different varieties and trying to keep them going in their pure form,” he said.
“I had chickens before just as egg layers and from there got interested in the rare breeds.”
The association was formed in the Hunter Valley area in 2006 and has more than 170 members across Australia.
The show will be held from 9am to 2pm on Saturday. Phone show secretary Fiona Frederick on 0425 331 637 for more information.
