Colts quartet Brady Hammond, Joey Griffiths, Daniel Bates and Ben Murray impressed selectors with their performances for Group 21 in taking out the Greater Northern Regional Championships in Tamworth.
Group 21 accounted for Group 19 in the opening match 28-16 before breezing past Group 4 in the second fixture 48-4.
In the remaining game Group 19 doubled the score of Group 4 in a 52-26 win.
The undefeated record of Group 21 saw them earn the silverware.
Hammond, Griffiths, Bates and Murray will be joined in the Greater Northern Tigers by nine of their Group 21 teammates.
Scone has the strongest contingent, with Daniel Ritter, Jason Apthorpe, Joel Harrison, Tim Smith and Josh Adams all getting the nod, while flying the flag for their respective clubs were Aberdeen’s Marcus Marsh, Denman’s Ben Hagan, Muswellbrook’s Daley Boney and Singleton’s Luke Gardner.
The Greater Northern Tigers tackle the Western Rams at Singleton on May 31 in tier two of the NSW Country Championships, while Riverina take on Northern Rivers at the same venue on the same day.
In the junior ranks, the Greater Northern Tigers will be up against the Southern Stingrays at Figtree on June 7 in the under-18 and under-16 age groups.
Group 21 had 10 players picked for the Tigers across both sides following the Greater Northern Regional Championships in Tamworth.
The under 16s were best represented with seven players – from Muswellbrook, Scone and Singleton – after claiming the John O’Halloran Shield with a pair of wins against Group 19 and Group 4 on Saturday.
The under 18s scored three spots in the Tigers line up, including Liam Leggett from the Greta Branxton Colts, but didn’t taste any success against Group 19 and Group 4 on the weekend with back-to-back losses.
