“We recorded total numbers over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday at 17,843 visitors, which was just fabulous,” Loretta Payne, the manager of event organiser Rural Scene Promotions, said.
“This is not quite a record – we had just over 19,000 visitors a few years ago,” Ms Payne said.
“But we are very pleased with our latest figures, due definitely to the excellent weather.”
A large number of the visitors included travellers on holiday in Australia and families who were touring.
“The numbers were not only the so-called ‘grey nomads,’ but also a lot of young people as well,” she said.
“We had many visitors who had come up from from Sydney as well as from Gunnedah, Tamworth and Newcastle.
“I believe Maitland is ideally placed as a hub of exhibitions such as this one.
“Our attendance figures for exhibitors were also very pleasing – so much so that we couldn’t fit any more into the exhibition area.”
Ms Payne said she could not disclose the takings, but these were very encouraging and the Lions Club would receive a percentage of the gate.
