Council received a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency in January to run an education program to target roadside litter thrown from vehicles along Wollombi Road at Bellbird and Wine Country Drive, Pokolbin.
There may be some delays on Wollombi Road, Bellbird, between 10am and 2pm on Thursday, July 24, while the clean-up occurs.
“What we really need to emphasise throughout this litter blitz is that even one person can make a difference,” mayor of Cessnock, Cr Bob Pynsent, said.
“Instead of chucking your rubbish out of your car window, think about how much damage that causes the environment and save it to pop in the bin once you’re home. Just a little bit of thoughtful effort can have such a huge impact.”
New signs will also be erected on Wollombi Road and Wine Country Drive to encourage motorists to take their rubbish with them and how to report vehicles they have seen littering.
