I write in reply to "Locomotion" concerning my opinion article on establishing a new library in Maitland (Maitland Mercury, 15/4/14).

I am annoyed that the criticism of a new library is coming from an anonymous source.
I wrote that article as a foundation member of Friends of Maitland Library, formerly known as Friends Of Our Library. The Mercury was entirely correct to point out that I am also the Greens candidate at the state election, but this is NOT a policy issue and nothing to do with The Greens.
You appear simply to be "Green bashing", that is, criticising the Greens at every opportunity. This is not uncommon in Maitland.
You talk about funding for a "grand scheme". A new library would be a community service, like swimming pools, parks, football grounds, only used by a lot more people. How much is it costing to rip up the mall for a few cars? That money could go to a new library. What about Section 94 funds? (developer contributions, if they still exist). Sell the old site to pay for a new library on council land?
Would you please do me the common courtesy of telling me who you are? We may be able to meet and talk like responsible adults - I'm easy to find.
Please, please, please, if you feel strongly about something, put your name to it.
