Comedian and writer Corinne Grant, ABC 1233 Newcastle breakfast host Aaron Kearney and local Pitcher Partners financial guru and Mai-Wel director Jennifer Leslie will argue that life is better now than it was a decade ago.
Taking them on, stand-up comedian and film writer Gary Eck, local identity from Tranter Lawyers Matthew Tranter and Woodberry Learning Centre principal Nancy Snow will argue that life was better 10 years ago.
The event, which is celebrating its 10th year in 2014, will be held at Maitland Town Hall on August 9.
Tickets cost $75 and include a light two-course meal and plenty of chances for audience members to win prizes.
“As it is our 10th anniversary of the debate here in Maitland, we wanted to include a mix of old and new faces,” Mai-Wel Group CEO Pennie Kearney said.
“I am delighted that Corinne and Gary, who haven’t been to the debate before, will join our local old-timers, to reminisce about the 10 years passed and if life is better now or then. Only time will tell who has the winning argument.”
The debate is one of three major fund-raising events undertaken annually by the not-for-profit organisation.
Proceeds from the evening will go towards acquiring a Mai-Wel Domestic Skills Hub, to provide people with a disability, who would like to become more independent, a realistic experience of living away from their family home.
