The first workshop in the program included 10 members of Reamus Youth Theatre who attended an acting class last weekend.
The demystifying Shakespeare workshop with actor and teacher Sarah Woods was held to prepare Reamus Youth Theatre members for its next production, The Tempest by William Shakespeare, which opens on August 1.
Woods is a graduate of the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, she has a career in film, theatre and television and teaches courses with the Bell Shakespeare Company’s Arts Education team and NIDA.
“Maitland Repertory Theatre has received funding from Maitland City Council Community Grants program for training,” president Robert Comber said.
“We decided that Reamus Youth Theatre would benefit from an acting workshop in preparation for their next production, The Tempest by William Shakespeare.”
The Reamus workshop worked on developing characters and expanding acting skills.
Maitland Repertory Theatre will host more workshops for members including a lighting and sound operator workshop and a paint effects workshop for set painting.
“We have had a lot of interest from members wanting to attend the paint effects workshop in August and we are considering opening this one up to the Maitland community,” he said.
